Why we chose this?
At least 25% of today’s global warming results from methane released by human activities.

What’s the impact?
The project helps mitigate the release of methane into the atmosphere. This occurs as a result of the breakdown of organic matter from the Palm Pol Mill. The major components of the project are:
Extraction of methane (biogas) from wastewater through biogas reactor
Reuse of biogas for fuel
Allows reuse of wastewater into the mill production process, aiding water conservation

Why we chose this?
Since the 1970s, Cambodia’s primary rainforest cover shrunk from 70% to just 3.1% today. Deforestation in the country has been accelerating over the last decade as a result of industrial plant expansion, logging, and conversion of agriculture.

What’s the impact?
The conservation project has a holistic approach with four direct interventions:

• Strengthening legal mechanisms and political support
• Direct law enforcement
• Strengthening community natural resource management
• Developing alternative livelihoods

Why we chose this?
Most of Turkey’s electricity generation comes from fossil fuel-fired power plants (78% of total generation in 2014), with natural gas accounting for almost half of all generation. Electricity from hydroelectric facilities also accounts for a significant share of Turkey’s total generation (17%).

What’s the impact?
This project focuses on clean electricity production, using the potential energy of Aksu River as a renewable source. By producing electricity from a non-fossil fuel source, this project:

• Reduces the impact of airborne pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Turkey’s electricity generation is heavily reliant on fossil fuels. By investing in renewables projects in the area, we help the Turkish national electricity grids transition towards more sustainable resources.

Why we chose this?
Coal supplied about 58% of China’s total energy consumption in 2019. Despite structural changes to China’s economy over the last few years, the country’s energy demand is expected to increase. Government policies do support cleaner fuel use and more energy efficient measures.

What’s the impact?
This project will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated from the North China Power Grid (NCPG). This will displace part of the NCPG’s electricity, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by coal-fired power plants. It will contribute to the development of the local community by means of:

• GHG emission reduction
• Pollutants emission reduction through replacing fossil fuel combustion
• Employment opportunities

Why we chose this?
The current Indonesian government has pledged to cut by 29% to 41% by 2030. The Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve Project can help with this by addressing deforestation.

This project can help Indonesia meet its climate goals by:

• Increasing agricultural productivity and the income of small-scale food producers
• Protect carbon stores and increase carbon sequestration
• Ensure full and effective participation of women in leadership at all levels of social, political, and economic life.
